Participants
Acquire Important Answers because AiA asks Important
Universal Questions.
A profound
strength of the AiA System is the universality of the
topics of the projects and the conversations those
topics evoke. AiA causes the participant to focus on the
“Important Questions”. Some of the Project titles evoke
these questions:
-
Who am I?
Where am I going?
-
What are my
positive and negative attitudes? Can I change?
-
What is my
direction? What are my choices and options?
What are my strengths? My weaknesses? Can I fill the
gap?
Can I
improve my self image, self-esteem, and self confidence?
Can I be a
good leader and manager?
How do I develop leadership
skills? Can people count on me?
How do I
synthesize and report my findings, orally and in writing?
Can I learn
to speak to meet the demands of my workplace?
How can I
get along with people better? How do I come across?
How do I handle
people problems at home, work, in my life?
How can I
develop honesty, integrity, trust and empathy?
What are my
emotions? How do I handle them? How can I better handle the emotions
of others?
How can I be
liked by others? How do I get along with people who bug me?
What are
good relationships? How do I develop better interpersonal
relationships?
How do I
solve my problems? Make decisions?
How do groups make decisions? Get a task done
or choose a leader? How do groups of people work?
How can I
overcome fear, anxiety, worry, and doubt? Am I standing in my own
way?
What is my
work and what are my attitudes toward work? Do they need changed?
How?
How do I
move forward? Setting goals and taking action? Better choices?
What is the
meaning of life? What’s it all about? What is love all about?
Do I need to
take personal responsibility? In what areas?
What about
my day to day living? Time management? My goals? Dreams,
expectations, opportunities?
AiA addresses the thinking and
attitudes beneath personality, behavior, actions,
performance, and results. AiA Classic addresses the
cause underlying the problem. Every successful
leader knows this--they simply seek an effective process
to focus on it. AiA Classic provides that process.
Today AiA Classic reinvented and reengineered takes a
quantum leap into the 21st Century to meet 21st Century
needs.
This
30 hour process with 20 flexible modules has been attended
by over 4 million people! Used
as an off the shelf, Do It Yourself packaged system in organizational
training, corporate leadership development, colleges and continuing
education, employee and human resource development programs,
retreats, employee and corporate settings, it can be adapted to
meet the needs of any group. AiA fixes people
problems.
AiA
is strongly founded on the best of learning and group
theory models, its roots going solidly back to 1926 and 1927.
It was written in 1957 and entitled Dynamic Man and
later named Adventures in Attitudes®
by a businessman, Robert "Bob" Conklin. AiA began with a
poem and a businessman's frustrated struggle to develop more
effective and productive employees and workers.
AiA is designed using small group
interaction with individual and group exercises
called Projects. We see these "projects" on a larger
scale in the popular "survivor" or "apprentice" reality TV
shows. AiA is facilitator
guided in Units and Modules, but no one gets "voted off
the island." Participants start where they are and finish
changed--often quite dramatically. AiA
begins the journey
which the individual continues life-long to the benefit
of themselves and to the workplace or organizations in
which they live and work.
 |
Attitudes, the
ways we think, underlie personality and behavior. Personality
and behavior are Attitudes in Action. Choices of attitudes,
behavior and personality bring about results--either positive or
negative. Positive
choices create positive behaviors, actions, results
and positive outcomes. |
 |
These
charts form the foundation of the AiA conceptual
model. Seeking ideas for his first program in 1957, Bob
Conklin had an inspired moment and sketched these
Positive and Negative Attitudes Charts
while riding a train from Minneapolis to St Louis. They are little changed from the original
models of attitude development.
